The International Association for the Study of Pain
defines pain “as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue
damage.” This definition implies two components of pain: the actual sensory experience that physically
occurs in the body and what happens in the brain emotionally when perceiving that stimuli. The goal of
pain medicine is to find the source of the signal that is being perceived, treat it and repair the damage
if possible, or control the signals so that a person can function as normally as possible.
When choosing
a physician to manage your pain or perform a procedure to relieve your pain, it is important to understand
that anesthesiologists are the specialists who started the whole idea of “pain management” over 30 years
ago. Did you know that anesthesiologists were the first to specialize in pain management? Also,
Anesthesia was the first medical board to offer Board Certification for pain treatment. Furthermore, the
recognized world authorities in the field who have authored over 80% of all the textbooks written about
pain management procedures over the past 20 years are anesthesia pain specialists who first described and
taught those same procedures. So, if you are referred to a doctor for a pain management procedure, take a
moment to evaluate his/her credentials. It makes a difference.
All the physicians of Pinnacle Pain
Medicine are Board Certified, Anesthesia pain specialists and with their combined qualifications offer
the best-trained and most experienced experts in spine injection therapy.
